Office Sought: Representative - District 19
Occupation: Police Officer
I graduated from Southern Maine Community College in 2007 with an associates degree in Fire Science. I also graduated from the University of Southern Maine in 2010 with a bachelors degree in Criminology.
Single, no children.
Why are you running for office? I am running because I firmly believe hardworking Mainers deserve dedicated representation in Augusta to cut taxes, to lessen onerous regulations, and to encourage policy that lets people themselves, not government, decide what is best for their families. I am running to strengthen public safety in Maine. I have worked in public safety for over a decade, as a firefighter, police officer and advanced emergency medical technician. Our firefighters, police officers and emergency medical personnel are our first line of defense. We have a responsibility to provide adequate resources, equipment and training so they can safely and adequately perform their duties.
This is my first time running for a political office.
The federal health care law has offered to pay states to expand their Medicaid programs to provide health coverage to low income Mainers. Do you support Medicaid (or MaineCare) expansion? No
I do not support becoming further dependent on the federal government. The state can not afford this measure on our own, without raising taxes as federal funding is reduced later on.
Reform of the state’s public assistance programs has been the focus of debates in the State House and on the campaign trail. Do you believe that the state’s welfare programs are too generous?Yes
What, if anything, would you change about welfare?I believe we must have these services available to the truly needy. Rooting out fraud and decreasing benefits to those who are childless and able to work should be a priority.
Do you support raising the state’s minimum wage from $7.50 an hour?Yes
By how much?I would support a slight raise in the minimum wage. I do not believe any adult working full time should live in poverty. That being said, I can not support any legislation which will inevitably cause business to lay off staff or worse go out of business.
Would you support legalization of marijuana? No
Please explain your position on legalization? My biggest concern with marijuana legalization is the unpreparedness of law enforcement to effectively police an almost certain spike in impaired driving.
