Why are you running for office? It has been the highest honor of my life to represent the people of my district in the 126th Legislature. I am running for re-election because I have more work to do. I have sown some seeds. A few of my ideas have taken root. I would love to see them bear fruit.
State Representative, 126th Legislature, 2012-2014; President, Maine Electoral College, 2012; Democratic National Convention Delegate, 2008
The federal health care law has offered to pay states to expand their Medicaid programs to provide health coverage to low income Mainers. Do you support Medicaid (or MaineCare) expansion?Yes
The men and women who have served our country in uniform and the farmers who grow our food deserve health insurance. For too many of them, MaineCare is all they can afford.
Reform of the state’s public assistance programs has been the focus of debates in the State House and on the campaign trail. Do you believe that the state’s welfare programs are too generous?Other
What, if anything, would you change about welfare? How does this publication define welfare?
Do you support raising the state’s minimum wage from $7.50 an hour?Yes
By how much?I'll leave that up to the experts who know a lot more than I about what constitutes a living wage in this day and age. Ideally, a family with heads of household who work full-time ought to earn enough income to be able to feed itself, pay all of the bills, and set a little aside for higher education, a rainy day, and retirement, without the need for any public assistance.
Would you support legalization of marijuana?Yes
Please explain your position on legalization?Ultimately, the people should decide the issue at the ballot box.
