Why are you running for office? Although I have some experience testifying and working on legislative study groups, I am an outsider to politics- a businessman. I have watched Maine repeatedly not be able to compete for new business which would lift our economy and provide good jobs. I want to use my solid business experience to make Maine a more business friendly place. We must reduce roadblocks to new businesses, reduce energy costs, incentivize training programs, and offer tax incentives that will get Maine people back to work. I have been able to accomplish things in business by working with partners and competitors, and I will do the same in the legislature.
Except for testifying before legislative committees many times, and working on some legislative study and work groups regarding solid waste legislation, I have no experience.
The federal health care law has offered to pay states to expand their Medicaid programs to provide health coverage to low income Mainers. Do you support Medicaid (or MaineCare) expansion? No
I do not favor expanding Medicaid programs as proposed.
Reform of the state’s public assistance programs has been the focus of debates in the State House and on the campaign trail. Do you believe that the state’s welfare programs are too generous?Yes
What, if anything, would you change about welfare? We all understand that our elderly, disabled, lowest income, and single moms etc. need our help and Mainers are happy to provide that help. Illegals and those able- bodied young, who are taking advantage or our system at the expense of hard working Maine people, must be eliminated from receiving benefits.
Do you support raising the state’s minimum wage from $7.50 an hour?No
Please explain your position on the minimum wage.We must create a stronger overall business climate in Maine, which will create more and better paying jobs.
Would you support legalization of marijuana? No
Please explain your position on legalization?I do not favor an further legalization of marijuana.
