Why are you running for office? My involvement in Politics goes back over thirty years. I have always been interested and worked on several campaigns. These past two years I have been the local Republican City Committee Chairperson and involved at the County level also. Our main goal was to try to get people to run for local, county and state office. People are not inclined to put themselves out there. There is a lot of apathy, not only in politics but in all organizations. I believe in the two party system and in Saco we have seen the same candidates run again and again. That's when I decided to try to make a difference, this is a new challenge for me and I take it serious. With me, it won't be politics as usual, I am very conservative and live by a budget, I hope I can to that in Augusta.
I was elected the Ward 1 Clerk and was in office for over 10 years. I have and still am the Chairperson of the Saco City Committee for the last two years.
The federal health care law has offered to pay states to expand their Medicaid programs to provide health coverage to low income Mainers. Do you support Medicaid (or MaineCare) expansion? No
The Federal Government has offered to pay states to expand their Medicaid, what happens when they stop and the State has to take over. Who pays then?
Reform of the state’s public assistance programs has been the focus of debates in the State House and on the campaign trail. Do you believe that the state’s welfare programs are too generous?Yes
What, if anything, would you change about welfare?Too many people are on welfare. I believe people of certain age groups able bodied should be out working . Welfare aid should only be a supplement and not a life time occupation. Welfare was designed to help the elderly and people in need .
Do you support raising the state’s minimum wage from $7.50 an hour?Other
Please explain your position on the minimum wage. This is a Catch 22. The minimum wage at $7.50 is difficult to live on. Raising the minimum wage, puts a burden on small businesses.
Would you support legalization of marijuana? No
Please explain your position on legalization?Legalization of marijuana doesn't make it safer. It's a drug, and should be used for medicinal purposes.
